Dino-tastic
Dino-days
If you know me at all, you would know that I have a thing for dinosaurs, I think they are really rad. So these next few days were really exciting for me. I spent my first day in Alberta at Dinosaur Provincial Park. This in itself was really cool. As I did not know what time I was going to arrive, I did not book any of the tours, but there were a few I heard were great. I did, however hit the trails. The trails here are all fairly short, easy hikes, but they are quite picturesque--great for a family! It was a little later when I started hiking, so it had cooled off nicely, but, there is not a lot of shade. I would keep this in mind if you are ever planning to visit.
My favourite hike here was the one through the coulee. The sun was starting to sink down, casting some beautiful lighting amongst the rock. Probably one of my favourite sunsets so far.
World's Largest Dinosaur
Now, where does a dino lover go next? If you guessed Drumheller, you hit the nail on the head! The Royal Tyrell Museum to be exact. Going through the gallery, I was like a kid in a candy shop. There was so much to see! Although I got there for 10:30, just an hour and a half after opening, it was busy. Children speeding around, with their parents in tow, trying to slow them down and enjoy what the museum has to offer. Despite being in places where people seem to be few and far inbetween the last few days, the chaos of the Museum frazzled me a little bit. I felt like I was in New York all over again; so much to see,but so many people. Of course, I didn't let this ruin the experience for me. Mind you, I'm sure there were few things that could ruin it, I was much too excited, and totally in the zone.
Now, I couldn't leave Drumheller without seeing "The World's Largest Dinosaur" or climbing up to its jaws for that matter. So I hiked up my tourist pants, and hit up the tourist centre. I have no regrets, it lived up to my expectations.
Being pretty beat, I didn't stop and see the hoodoos, or tour the coal mine (I have heard this is a cool attraction). I was also super excited to get to my next destination: my cousin's house! When she is home, our lives don't seem to meet up, so we often miss each other before she heads back to Alberta. So, we are getting some much needed quality time. Plus, as much as I am enjoying my time alone, it will be nice to see a friendly face!
