So Long Ontario!

They Call it Superior for a Reason

Looking out into the water from the Agawa Pictographs

If there is one thing that made me grateful for taking the long route through Northern Ontario, it is the drive around Lake Superior. Absolutely stunning landscapes. I know I will be back! On my drive, I stopped in Lake Superior Provincial Park. I went on the small hike to the Agawa Pictographs. The hike was short, but gorgeous. The pictographs were also cool to see, glad it was a calm day! With the sun shining bright, I could not resist a dip in the lake, so off to Katherine's Cove I went! On this gorgeous day, the water was very refreshing! Unfortunately, I still had a long drive ahead of me, so I did not get to go on any other hikes/stops. Needless to say, Lake Superior Provincial Park is on my list of places to go back to! If you haven't been, I suggest you go too!

Sleeping Giant/Thunder Bay

The clouds rolled in shortly after setting up for the night as Sleeping Giant so I knew I was in for some rain. I had my tent set up,  and some time to relax before calling it a night. I was cozy in my sleeping bag before the rain poured down. The good news is that my tent is definitely waterproof. However, here is where I ran into some trouble. My car was giving me grief, and long story short, I had an oil leak (which is not good). Luckily it was an inexpensive fix, which I found out after calling several mechanics to see if they could get me in! So glad I found one, and they were incredible! Unfortunately this cut into the time I had set aside for hiking, so I did not explore Sleeping Giant or Kakabeka Falls. I suppose I save those for another time. However, on my way to Crystal Lake (which was my next campsite), I found the best burger. If for some reason you ever find yourself near Ignace, Ontario, you must stop at Burger Scoop for a burger. Yes, it is combined with a Robin's Donuts, but these handmade burgers are to die for. Maybe it was just what I needed after a long, stressful day, but this is the burger I will never forget.

When I got to Crystal Lake, I was dog-tired. It was my last night in Ontario, and I just spent the day wandering a brisk, cloudy (rainy) Thunder Bay. I was greeted by the friendly owners, which lifted my spirits a little bit. It was still cold, but at least it was sunny here (about 10 mins outside of Vermilion Bay). I got my tent set up, after drying out the fly the best I could after the previous days rain. Layered up, and crawled into the tent for what was going to be a cold night. Waking up in the morning, it was very chilly, feeling only about 8 degrees! I came looking for adventure, but seem to find fall! At least it was sunny, which allowed my tent to dry before I packed it up. While it was drying out, I grabbed my book and headed for the lake. Watched the fog rise from the water, disappearing the higher the sun got. It was a beautiful last morning in Ontario.
